Motivation defined (Levy, 2017) Work motivation is a force that drives people to behave in a way that it: • Energizes, which results in the expenditure of effort • Directs effort or behavior in a particular way or channels it toward a particular object or place (i.e., must have direction or purpose) & • Sustains effort over a given period of time
