Landforms. Plain: a large area of flat land. Island: body of land surrounded by water. waterfall. Beach: sloping shoreline next to a body of water. Basin: area of low land surrounded by higher land. Canyon: a deep, narrow valley with steep sides.

Strait: a narrow waterway or channel connecting two larger bodies of water.
Canal: a waterway built to navigate or irrigate. (connects two bodies of water)
Isthmus: a land bridge bordered by water (connecting two larger pieces of land)
Bay: part of an ocean, sea, or lake that extends into the land
Gulf: part of ocean or sea that extends into the land (bigger than a bay)
Plateau: a high, flat landform that rises steeply above surrounding land
Mesa: high flat landform with steep sides (smaller than plateau)
Volcano: opening of the Earth through which lava, gases, and ash are forced out
