Midtown TunnelCorridor Project Estimated cost: $1.2 billion Solicit Conceptual Proposals – Early 2008 Solicit Detailed Proposals – Spring 2009 Proposal Selection – Spring 2010 Construction Phase Summer 2010-2015 Operations/Tolling Phase – Late 2015 • What’s being done? • In early 2008, VDOT will be soliciting a Public-Private Transportation Act (PPTA) partnership to improve the Midtown Tunnel Corridor. The effort includes the Midtown Tunnel, Downtown Tunnel and Martin Luther King Freeway, including: • construction of a parallel Midtown Tunnel • extension of the MLK from I-264 to London Boulevard • maintenance and safety improvements to the Midtown and Downtown tunnels • modifications to the Brambleton Avenue Interchange • operations and maintenance of the facilities • tolling

  7. Six Year Improvement Plan & Outlook • Capital improvement program funding is diminishing in the out years • Large number of proposed project opportunities in Eastern Region are in Urban Program
