Lateral Skull • This dog presented very distressed, pawing at his nose and panting heavily. It turns out a kid in the family had shoved a bobby pin up the dogs nose! • Positioning • Good • Collimation • Good • Centering • OK – it could be a little more caudal • Label • OK – I finally remembered my right marker and forgot the patient label • Technique • OK – it is a little blurry * This radiograph was taken at the emergency clinic where I work*
VD Skull • This dog presented very distressed, pawing at his nose and panting heavily. It turns out a kid in the family had shoved a bobby pin up the dogs nose! • Positioning • Good • Collimation • OK – the collimation could have been tighter both ventrally and dorsally • Centering • Good – centered over the caudal border of the scapula • Label • Good – The patient label is present and the left and right views are labeled accordingly • Technique • Good – the bones and organs are defined nicely * This radiograph was taken at the emergency clinic where I work*
Open Mouth Nasal • Positioning • Good – I am not very familiar with this view so it took me awhile to understand the anatomy • Collimation • Good • Centering • OK • Label • Bad – there is no patient label and no left or right marker • Technique • OK – the contrast could have been increased * I was not able to take this view myself during the semester, but a coworker dug up an old radiograph for me to critique*
Lateral Lumbar Spine • Positioning • Good • Collimation • OK – I’m not sure why the shadow showed up ventrally and the collimation could have been tighter dorsally • Centering • Good – • Label • OK – the patient label is visible but there is no left or right marker • Technique • Good – the spine is well defined
VD Lumbar Spine • Positioning • Good • Collimation • OK – Could have been tighter on both the left and right side • Centering • Good • Label • OK – the patient label is visible but there is no left or right marker • Technique • Good – the spine is well defined
Lateral Cervical Spine • Positioning • OK – it would be nice to not have the sandbag in the radiograph • Collimation • OK – Could have been tighter on both the left and right side, dorsally and ventrally • Centering • Good • Label • OK – the patient label is visible but there is no left or right marker • Technique • Good – the cervical spine is well defined
Lateral TL Junction • Positioning • Good • Collimation • OK – the collimation could have been tighter both ventrally and dorsally • Centering • Good • Label • OK – the patient label is present but there is no left or right marker • Technique • Good – the radiograph was not as blurry as it appears in the picture
OFA Hips • Positioning • Good • Collimation • OK – the collimation could have been tighter both on the left and right • Centering • Good • Label • Good – The patient label and left marker are both present • Technique • Good – it is easy to tell the hips are not dysplastic
Lateral Thorax • This is a radiograph taken of a 6 year old, FS Lab Mix. She tested positive for heartworm the previous day. • Positioning • Good • Collimation • OK – the collimation could have been tighter both ventrally and dorsally • Centering • Good – centered over the caudal border of the scapula • Label • Good – The patient label is present and the left and right views are labeled accordingly • Technique • Good – the bones and organs are defined nicely
VD Thorax • Positioning • Good – the patient was straight, my picture was not! • Collimation • OK – the collimation could have been tighter on both the left and right side • Centering • Good • Label • OK – the patient label is visible, but the right side was marked manually after the radiograph was taken • Technique • OK – it could have been a little lighter
Lateral Abdomen • This is a radiograph taken of a 6 year old, FS Lab Mix. She tested positive for heartworm the previous day. • Positioning • Good – the whole abdomen is included • Collimation • Good – the collimation was tight to the dogs body • Centering • Good – it was centered over the last rib of the patient • Label • Good – the patient label and left marker are both visible • Technique • Good – the bones and organs are defined nicely; gas is easily seen in the intestines
VD Abdomen • Positioning • Good – the whole abdomen is included • Collimation • Good – the collimation was tight to the dogs body • Centering • Good – it was centered over the last rib of the patient • Label • Good – the patient label and right marker are both visible; the right marker is upside down • Technique • OK – the contrast could have been increased
