Mixed media artwork by Elise Meredith Beattie Beattie Artworks is the home of fearless paintings and inspirational techniques. Fearless paintings are based upon my imagination and love of photography. An avid student of humanity and nature; I hunt for inspiration wherever I travel. But these photographs are just a jumping off point for the inspirational techniques used to create my visual story. In my compositions I play cat and mouse with symbolism and whimsical images; in surroundings filled with surreal surprises that are a fusion of representation and abstraction. Each fearless painting begins with a pouring technique. Pouring paint allows me the ultimate freedom. It is as if I swim with my subjects; diving into a pool of vivid colors. As I dip my fingers into each puddle I push the surfaces around. The mingling hues become ever changing triads thus obscuring my drawing with a vivid veil. The final steps, in my creative process, involve taming the creature that is my artwork. As the painting’s subject roars and rears up, the imagery challenges my knowledge of compositional design, color and value. Patience is primary during this simmering time period as I must wait until my ideas have stopped spinning. “SPIN CYCLES” 40 x 32 media on canvas. © 2012 Elise M. Beattie

“DREAM ENERGY”©Elise M. Beattie22 X 30 POURED WATERCOLORS & MIXED MEDIA WITH COLLAGE ON PAPER Painting with my mind’s eye means that it takes time to cultivate an individual artwork’s mood and spiritual meaning. Whether awake or in my dreams my focus is on what needs to be done to strengthen the visual story. I dribble, splatter and work to create a pattern driven image that suits each contemporary composition. I paint imagining I am the circus ring leader snapping my brush so that the various layers of watercolor, acrylic and collage can bow to my imagination.
