  8.  It was built by Mughal emperor ShahJahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. • It has become a UNESCO world heritage site in 1983. • Taj Mahal is regarded by many as the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Ottoman Turkish and Indian architectural styles. • Agra Fort was originally a brick fort, held by the Hindu Sikarwar Rajputs • It was mentioned for the first time in 1080 AD when a Ghaznavide force captured it. •   Sikandar Lodi (1488–1517) was the first Sultan of Delhi who shifted to Agra and lived in the fort

Varanasi  is widely considered to be the second oldest city in the world after Jerusalem. • Varanasi was founded by the god Shiva. The Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata are also stated to have visited the city in search of Shiva to atone for their sins of fratricide and Brāhmanahatya that they had committed during the climactic Kurukshetra war.[6 • Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi is home to the Vishwanath Jyotirling temple, which is one of the most sacred of Hindu Temples. •   It is famous for its ghats which are populated year round with people who want to take a dip in the holy Ganges River.

  10. Maha Kumbh Mela billed as the biggest religious gathering in the world. • Kumbh Mela takes place every twelve years at one of four places: Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik.

Kumbh Mela: Held at all four places. • Ardha Kumbh Mela: Held at Haridwar and Prayag, every 6 years. • Purna Kumbh Mela: Held only at Prayag every 12 years. • Maha Kumbh Mela: Held only at Prayag, every 144 years. • The first written evidence of the Kumbh Mela can be found in the accounts of Chinese monk Xuanzang( alternately Hsuan Tsang) who visited India in 629–645 CE, during the reign of King Harshavardhana.

Bithoor: This is the historical capital of Uttar Pradesh from where the Hindu god Brahma created the universe •   It is situated about 10 km from Kanpur. •   It was at one time home to many of the rebellion's most prominent characters including the Rani of Jhansi, Lakshmi Bai • most significant moments of Hindu religion and mythology are said to be created here, as being the place of the forest-rendezvous of Sita after Lord Rama left her, the birthplace of Lav and Kush, the site where the Ramayana was written

Ayodhya: Hindus believe the birthplace of Rama to be in Ayodhya at the place called Ram Janmabhoomi. • Ayodhya is located on the right bank of the river Sarayu, 6 km from Faizabad. •  According to the Ramayana, the city is 9,000 years old, and was founded by Manu, the first man in the Vedas, and law-giver of the Hindus.

  15. Tulsidas is said to have begun the writing of his famous Ramayana poem Shri Ramacharitamanas in Ayodhya in 1574 CE. The Atharva Veda called Ayodhya "a city built by gods and being as prosperous as paradise itself”.
