Characteristics of Library of Congress Classification • Resources have alphabetical call numbers • Resources are arranged by subject • (for example, a book with a call number beginning with the letters “AY” would be in the “Yearbooks, Almanacs, and Directories” section)

Characteristics of SuDocs Classification • Federal documents have alphabetical call numbers. • Federal documents are arranged by issuing government agency, not subject. • SuDocs classification is used for federal documents only. State documents have their own classification.
