The HEAR c/f Diploma Supplement The Differences • Paper based • Issued on completion of course • Academic achievements only • Recognised internationally via the “label” • Student record systems hold most of the data • Not accessible electronically by students • Electronic format and possibly paper • Live document referred to during the study by students/ tutors • Academic and personal achievements • Recognised in the UK (currently) • Student record systems do not hold information on personal achievements • Accessible electronically thus it opens new potential

A (non-technical) place to start… Requires a combined effort…strong working relationships between staff from Registry, IT services, Teaching and Learning, Careers and Employability and the Students Union… An electronic document/dataset… the definitive student record (Issue at graduation, storage post graduation, where, how, for how long, continued access)… A formative function… developed over the student lifecycle, updated periodically (access, for review by key players within the institution, (with the students permission, for permitted external audiences, employers/postgraduate tutors)…

The HEAR schema uses the new XCRI-CAP 1.2 schema and supporting schemas, available from the XCRIsubversion repository.

JISC Course Data Programme structure • Stage 1: Review and Planning Sept 2011 – 21 Nov 2011 • 95 Institutions, list of institutions is on JISC website • Stage 2 A: Implementation Jan 2012 - Mar 2013 • JISC selected 63 Stage 1 implementation plans representing a range of states of preparedness. • Stage 2 B: Implementation Sept 2012 - Mar 2013 • JISC will select up to 20 implementation plans • Supporting proof of concept validator and aggregator • Test web services for using XCRI-CAP feeds
