Supersoft magnets made from nanoscale dispersions of Fe-Co in a ceramic matrix Masood Hashemi Prof. Rishi Raj Dr. Atanu Saha Department of Mechanical Engineering University of Colorado at Boulder Research Project Presentation, October 15, 2004(P1/4)
Backgrounds • Magnetic Properties Susceptibility, Ferromagnetic, Soft-Hard Magnets • Hysteresis Curve • Ostwald ripening Many small crystals form in a system initially but slowly disappear except for a few that grow larger, at the expense of the small crystals. • Polymer-derived Ceramics In this process an organic liquid precursor is crosslinked and pyrolyzed to produce the ceramic matrix. Research Project Presentation, October 15, 2004(P2/4)
Research approach and Techniques • Making Fine Powder (Powder Metallurgy) • Reduce the amount of Carbon • Oxides reduction with Hydrogen • Powder mixing with liquid Polymer Research Project Presentation, October 15, 2004(P3/4)
