HE in FE – the opportunity to be different • Differentiated fees • As long as we can afford to keep them low • As long as fee levels & loans remain newsworthy • Differentiated qualifications • Foundation Degrees • Return of HNDs & HNCs • Differentiated products • Higher Apprenticeships • Condensed & PT programme • Differentiated clients • Employers • Non-traditional entrants

HE in FE – the threats & unknowns • Awarding powers • Cable prefers University involvement • May pass to FE if not • Allocation of places • Cable disappointed by the number of high cost places • Indicated will allocate to FE as long as quality is good • Post-Wolf future of vocational education • Funding & Loans for Access courses • Will individual & employer clients pay for new products? • How can short-term opportunities be embedded long-term? • Niche v Mass market
