  1. Water in the H3+ RSDM #3 Closing Remarks Jonathan Tennyson Department of Physics and Astronomy University College London

  2. H3+: The next hundred years The next 5 years • Predissociation spectrum: • 1984-1993 Carrington and co-workers observed • near dissociation spectra of H3+ and isotopologues; • ~ 100 well-resolved lines per cm-1. • Unassigned and largely unexplained The scandal of theoretical spectroscopy!

  3. 2. Electronically excited H3+ Theory shows they are there: Particularly meta-stable 3Su+ state Have they been discovered? Do they matter?

  4. 3. Observation of H3+ in exoplanets Models show H3+ vital for cooling Extended nature in atmosphere: good for transit observations

  5. 22nd Cumberland Lodge Astrophysics Colloquium Opacities in Cool Stars and Exoplanets 2 – 5 July 2012 Windsor Great Park near London Speakers include: France Allard, Adam Burgasser, Michel Herman, Bob Kurucz, Tim Lee, Mark Marley, Sara Seager www.exomol.com/conference/2012
