Casual and Close • Casual-someone with whom you share interests but not deep emotional bonds. • Close-have strong emotional ties to each other. You feel comfortable sharing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
Platonic Friendships • Friendship with a member of the opposite gender in which there is an affection, but the two are not considered a couple. • “Were just friends!”
Online Friendships • Can be rewarding because you can get to know people from other parts of the world. • Can be dangerous as well because people lie.
Problems in Friendships • Cliques • Envy or Jealousy • Changes in friendship
Cliques • A small circle of friends who exclude people viewed as outsiders. • Exclude others by showing prejudice.
Managing Feelings of Envy or Jealousy • These feelings can harm a friendship. • Ask yourself these questions if you feel jealous….. • What is making me feel jealous? • Is my friend deliberately trying to make me feel this way? • Are these feelings more important than our friendship?
Changes in friendship • As you grow older you and a close friend might spend less time together and develop new interests.
Activity for today • Students will choose 2 movies or TV shows they are familiar with that have a friendship displayed. • Then analyze the friendship to see if it is healthy or unhealthy based on our class discussion of healthy relationships.
