The housing contribution? Physical stock/condition: • Damp, mould, excess cold - associated with increased risk of cardiovascular, respiratory and rheumatoid diseases • Poor suitability and overcrowding – wellbeing and mental health (depression, anxiety) • Structural defects, maintenance and repairs - increase risk of accident (e.g. poor lighting, lack of stair handrails) with elderly more likely to suffer injury • New house building to meet changing demography?

Housing related support: • Promotes independence, prevents need for more acute interventions and facilitates hospital discharge • Telecare/assistive technology - helping people to gain capacity to monitor own health • Personal care planning and individual budgets – integrated, patient focused response • End of life care – dignity and choice at end of life
