Clinical Dietitian • Responsibilities are 70%-90% clinical depending on the particular facility • Clinical responsibilities would include: • Patient screening, nutritional assessment, diet instruction, and follow-up whether general or specialty • Review and update of medical chart making recommendations where appropriate • Patient consults when requested • Participation in patient rounds • Participation with nutrition support team • Out-patient counseling
Administrative responsibilities of a Clinical Dietitian may include: • Diet Office, Diet Tech, trayline supervision • Assisting in segments of quality assurance programs • In-service training programs to dietary and non-dietary staff • Nutritional education programs to in-patient, out-patient, and community groups • Membership on interdisciplinary committees • Assisting in Dietary Department Supervision • Monitoring and maintenance of cost controls, I.e. nourishments, floor supplies, and supplements.
Chief Clinical Dietitian(Clinical Nutrition Manager) • Total responsibility for nutritional care program • Direct and indirect supervision of clinical/patient services employees • Primary interface with directors of other medically related disciplines • Directs out-patient and community programs • Administrative responsibilities, i.e. Quality Assurance Program, Policy & Procedures of Clinical Program, etc. • May act as Department Head in the absence of the Food Service Director
Clinical audits Pre J.C.A.H.O. or state inspection audits Sales Surveys New account start-up Task forces Screening dietetic applicants District Dietitian • Expanded responsibilities for a highly successful Chief Dietitian or Food Service Director • Serves as a local resource to District Clinical personnel • Disseminates appropriate information from the corporation to the field and from the field to the corporation • Assists in special projects such as:
Coordinates clinical services and resources within a region Coordinates activities of District Dietitians Assists in sales process Coordinates projects and task forces Networks with organizations such as: J.C.A.H.O. State Regulatory agencies A.D.A. Facilitates clinical workshops and training programs Provides input into policy development Area Support Manager - Clinical Services
