Martin Zelm, Guy Doumeingts; INTEROP-VLab Enschede, March 26, 2013 IWEI 2013 Workshop3 Standardisation Standardisation for interoperability in the service-oriented enterprise - in the MSEE project
Table of content • Goal / Objective • Standardisation activities in MSEE • The internal survey /questionnaire and results • Opportunities to develop new standards • Conclusion
Goal Disseminate standardisation activities of the European project MSEE* (Manufacturing Services Ecosystem) and to increase awareness of standards development in the frame of service oriented enterprise *MSEE is - Virtual Factory Industrial Models, - Service oriented Management methodologies, - Future Internet Business Infrastructure - AND Four SME usecases
Objective • Promote the transferof MSEE research resultsinto standardisation • Motivate and support Academia / Researchers / Industry in the process to transform project results into new standards • Developrelationswith Standards Development Organisations (SDOs) and consortia, active in standardisation
Standardisation Activities • Collect the State of the Art in the various domains of MSEE project • Analyse and assess MSEE results from a standards viewpoint (via questionnaireand internet communication) • Support and advice partners concerning the standards development in SDOs (Standard development Organisations) • Participate to the promotion of the use of MSEE results in standardisation via MSEE workshops, and dissemination events
Challenges of standardisation • As longasprojectresultsare not yetcompleted, a New Work Item isdifficulttostart, due tolowinterestand lack ofconsensusofstakeholders • Whentheprojectiscompleted, fundingofstandardisationworkisverydifficult • New approach to promote transfer of research results to standardisation via active participation in SDOs and focused dissemination
Questionnaire: Findings • Title: Standardisation of upcoming Enterprise Services – a questionnaire to build a common knowledge base • 17 answers on 18 partners • 16 /17 answers consider the importance of standards • 8 /17 partners, nearly 50 percent, have not yet been involved in standards development • Focus is on standards for Service Modelling Languages, Service Life Cycle and Enterprise Interoperability Framework
Opportunities in dissemination for standardisation Enterprise Frameworks/Enterprise Modelling, Metamodel of service modelling constructs at the three modelling levels under MDSEA (see D. Chen paper at this workshop) ServiceLifecycleManagement framework with three axes for phases, roles and methods (see M. Freitag paper at this workshop) • Standardisationof terms, terminologies and methods for example in the domain of Assets, tbd
Conclusion • Internal survey of standardisation: first step towards establishing a common understanding of standards and standardisation throughout the MSEE project. • Starting to involve partners in standardisation process with selected SDOs • Upcoming activities: focus on the disseminationbyworkshops and other efforts
