  1. Welcome To The Mobile World of Cellular Self Service Presented by: Steve Howes Extending the reach of digital information

  2. What is CSS ? • Cellular Self Service (CSS™) provides a flexible mobile gateway allowing for the retrieval and updating of any employee related information stored in existing HR and Payroll systems through the use of a mobile phone • Data is retrieved, manipulated and presented via proven Text based (SMS) technology in conjunction with the implementation of highly customisable Information Request Types (IRT’s)

  3. Why CSS? • Extends the reach and accessibility to employee related information • 3.3 Billion Mobile Subscribers World Wide • (Half the Worlds Population) • More than 12 Million Active Subscribers in New Zealand & Australia • Over 3.3 Million Subscribers in NZ Alone Source: Statistics New Zealand December 2006 Quarter

  4. Why CSS? • Remove all geographical limitations • Leverage off existing infrastructure • Telstra,SingTel Optus, Vodafone, Hutchison Telecomms, Telecom (Existing CSP infrastructure) • Minimize additional hardware dependencies • Remove traditional costs related to remote access via WAN/MAN access etc (Bandwidth/Network) • 24X7 Access, Fully Redundant Backbone • Promote Access to information by providing the end user (employee) with access to personal information at minimal cost

  5. Why Text (SMS) ? • Supported by All 1G, 2G, 2.5G & 3G Networks • Supported by all cell phones • Cost effective solution • Simplicity / Ease of Use • Proven technology

  6. Why SMS / Text 2? • Fastest growing form of communication worldwide • Hundreds of billions of text messages are sent annually • Text messaging is the most widely used mobile data service on the planet • On average, 3 million messages are sent every hour in Britain • Australians sent more than 6 billion text messages in 2004 • In Australia, Text (SMS) usage has grown by 30 percent a year since the year 2000

  7. How does CSS work? • A User initiates a request for information, according to predefined Information Request Types (IRTs), via a simple text message (SMS) • The integrity and authenticity of the request is validated by the CSS Gateway • The result of the query is returned to the originating mobile phone in a highly secure manner

  8. Database 1 Database 2 How does it work? Leave*123* 0011845 CSS >> Leave Balance is 21.67 days Authenticate Cell No. Validate IRT Validate IRT Access Validate Resource Request

  9. Flexible IRT’s • Custom defined transaction types • Security controlled according to predefined group access control lists • Can be developed within minutes and can be reused across multiple installations • Allows for execution of multiple command types (e.g. SQL Script, Stored Procedures, Executables etc) • Ease of definition and implementation

  10. Integration to systems • CSS™ can provide a Cellular gateway to real time information, including access to Human Resource and Payroll related information directly from any Open Database origin • Full integration with minimal customisation effort is easily achievable as a direct result of the predefined CSS™ Info Views • CSS™ is therefore an exceptionally practical method of serving data as a form of Employee Self Service (ESS) as well as Management Self Service (MSS)

  11. Sample HR/Payroll IRTS • Personal Details as Recorded (Address, Personal, NOK etc.) • Current Payment Details (Rate of Pay etc.) • Leave Information (Current Balances) • Current Loan Balances • Query Reference Numbers (Tax, Medical Aid, Pension etc.) • Mini Payslip showing Allowances, Deductions, Nett Pay • Query Reimbursive Payments (Overtime, Travel etc.) • Retrieve Nett Pay for any given Period • Query Payroll Dates • Notification of predetermined events • Birthdays • Reminders • Updates to Personnel records (Banking, Rate of Pay, Leave etc.)

  12. Conclusion • At the simplest level, CSS and its flexible IRT’s can extend the life of existing, standard product offerings by providing the ability to instantly access information using simple Mobile Text Message streams. This entire process is carried out in a highly secure manner and the delivery thereof is guaranteed.
