Second CAPRI Seminar Cape Program for Rural Innovation In line with the general CAPRI strategy, research activities are supportive to all educational and policy related activities. In 2006 the following research agenda has been formulated (see next sheets)
Research themes 1-2 • Analysis of the appropriateness of farmer support services in view of different livelihoods and changing life styles • Analysis of land reform interventions and experiences of land reform beneficiaries with different forms of ownership and decision making
Research themes 3-4 • Analysis of the interaction between scientist and farmer knowledge in processes of developing new forms and scenarios for agricultural development, including research-extension linkages • Analysis of efforts to develop new production chains and the role of research and extension therein
Research themes 5-6 • Analysis of multi-stakeholder interactions and negotiations regarding the use of land and other resources in and around collectively owned farms • Analysis of (inter-) organizational management and learning in farmer support organizations and policy networks
Research themes 7-8 • Analysis of the responsiveness of agricultural knowledge networks to new demands, including analyses of mechanisms for the articulation of “demand” and “supply” of innovation support services. • Analysis of the dynamics of local innovation initiatives and efforts to create space and conducive conditions for “self-organised” agricultural development
Research themes 9-10-11 • Analysis of task performance and attitude of Frontline Extension Workers with respect to access to information as well as networking • Analysis of the “modes of cooperation” or the “synchronization of approaches” between CDW’s and ADO’s in view of the identification of emerging farmers • Analysis of problems with access to information CDW’s and ADO’s experience during the implementation of their tasks
Research themes 12-13 • Explore and analyse the approaches to human resource development within the PDA’s in view of future policy development in this matter • Explore opportunities and suggest alternatives to the agenda’s of research institutes that better serve the emerging farmers, including socio-economic topics
