Texas REACH Purpose of the organization: Facilitate the interaction between PAL/Aftercare agencies and institutions of higher education in order to increase college access for former foster youth and to create a successful learning environment so the student can obtain a college degree. Subscribe to the Texas Reach List Serve.
Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Transitional Living Services • PAL - Preparation for Adult Living Independent Living Skill Training • ETV – Education and Training Voucher • Medicaid for youth 18 – 21 years of age
College Preparatory Work • SAT & ACT Pmt Waiver High School Counselor
College Entrance • Application Waivers – Admissions • Placement Test – ETV (Must be awarded federal aid to begin application process) • Meningitis Shot – CHIP (under 18); Texas Medicaid (STAR) • Dorm Deposit – Transitional Living Allowance or ETV (Must be awarded federal aid) • Orientation – Federal Aid; Add to fee student fee statement
Campus Life • HB 452 Dormitory access - break housing (Thanksgiving, fall to spring, spring break, spring to summer 1, summer 1 to summer to, and summer 2 to fall) if student is enrolled for the subsequent semester Financial aid consideration – Planning to accommodate the year-round budget • Work Study – Preferred hiring; PAL Staff can provide the Employment Preference form letter (Govt. Code; Title 6; Subtitle B; Chapter 672)
