  1. Multigenre Research Project Everything you want to know!

  2. What is research? • It is attempting to answer a questions and form a conclusion based on collecting and analyzing information. • It is NOT simply collecting information and putting it on paper.

  3. What you will learn when completing this project: • How to write in different forms • How to derive research from different types of genres • How to evaluate creditable sources • How to cite sources correctly • How to use your creativity and original ideas in a project • How to improve writing and editing skills

  4. What is artwork? • Painting • Sculpture • Drawing • Professional Photograph • You will need to cite this art work using MLA style. • It is NOT clip art, internet images, your own creation,

  5. What is a preface? • A preface is an introduction to your work.  It is meant to greet readers and give a bit of background information about your project.  You'll need to introduce the subject and anything you think the reader should know about you and/or your project before they read it. It will help orient your readers quickly and supply information that will help build meaning the further they read.

  6. What information should I include in my preface? • how you came up with your idea • why your topic is important • a key part of the story • an introduction to a main character • a description of a crucial setting or central activity • a theme that will be carried through your genres • an overview of the territory to come

  7. What is a repetend? • Repetend is something added to your multigenre web project that repeats or continues. The purpose of repetend is to create unity among the various genre pieces and to give the writer an editorial voice that the reader can easily relate to.

  8. Examples of a repetend: • Picture • Word • Phrase • Image • Series of images or words • Symbol

  9. Ways to incorporate a repetend: • include the same phrase, sentence, or passage in each genre page as a heading or somewhere else in the text • include a description or design in each piece (written or graphic), placed strategically for easy recognition • include a running commentary from you, the writer, following or preceding each genre piece • create a character and follow his/her reactions to pieces • create a character involved somehow in each piece of writing--an ongoing little story • create a cartoon strip at the top or bottom of each genre page that comments on the ideas presented

  10. What is an epilogue? • An epilogue is similar to a conclusion.   In your epilogue you should reflect on your topic.  This is a chance to share your thoughts, feelings, and concluding information with your audience.

  11. Some things you can include: • how writing about this topic has changed your perspective on your topic • what you learned overall • how you felt about using the multi-genre medium to write rather than just writing a traditional story/essay • what you hope your audience learns from your multi-genre web • what you feel you accomplished from this project overall • any information that would help clarify anything you wrote • why you chose the genres you did for your project

  12. Bibliography Cards A Hillman, James. The Soul’s Code: In Search of Character and Calling. New York: Random House, 1996. RHHS 311.78

  13. Information Cards Love maps – role of anima and animus A 1 “Other psychologists call this object choice a projection. According to Jungian psychology, the projection springs from an archetypal source as part of each soul’s intimate essence. For Jungians, the love map has highly individualized features, because it is a complex image in the heart that brings about the “fall” and the feeling that this is a call of fate. The more obsessive and compelling the image, the more madly in love you become, which intensifies the conviction that indeed fate is calling. Jungians name this archetypal factor that skews the love map toward a particular person, the anima and animus.” (Hillman 141)

  14. Final Product • Final, typed, bound research project meeting all the requirements. • All drafts of each piece with proof of editing. This will be a thick section because at least you and one other person has to edit every selection in your project. • Sheets of white paper with the note cards you actually used in the project taped to the paper in the order they appear in your project. • All bib cards bound together with a rubber band. • All note cards not used in your project bound together with a rubber band. • All additional materials used in preparing and researching your project.
