What is Coal? • Coal is a black or black- brownish sedimentary rock and is mostly used to create electricity. • Coal is a natural resource and its non – renewable. • Coal takes years and year for it to be created. • When mining for coal sulfur is a danger for the miners.
The Creation Process of Coal • Coal is created through a natural process, like flooding and more. • Forests get buried under soil and as the years go by they go deeper into the ground. • As more soil goes over them they get compressed even more and the heat starts to rise. • As heat and pressure grows dead vegetation starts to slowly convert into coal
Mining for Coal • Coal is mining is digging underground for coal. • Mining for Coal has been around since the 1880’s. • Coal is mostly mined because of its energy content . • Mining is a very dangerous job and in many countries it provides little pay and many get injured or worse dead.
“The West Virginia Mining Disaster” • This was a mining disaster that took the life of 29 miners. • It was an explosion that was caused by the methane and the coal dust.
