Field Module. “The City”
CARDIFF CASTLE • First time visiting Cardiff Castle • Primary city that I currently live in • Interesting attraction
Cardiff Castle history • Over 200 years of development • Has been the home to such like the Romans, to Normans and to the Tudors • William Burges transforms the castle to a Gothic Revival style • Now a very large attraction to public and tourists
Normans Keep • Interesting build • Moat • Stairs leading up • Small narrow windows
View from ‘Normans Keep’ • Skyline view • Traditional/Old building ‘The house’ • Modern new build of the stadium behind it • View of both old and new
‘Skylines’ • Never been one to have an interest in skylines • After seeing views from ‘Norman Keep’, became interested in it • Skylines of Cardiff
StephenWiltshire • Artist who draws skylines of London city • Can sometimes draw them from memory • Beginning with animals, he moved onto London buses and then to the city • Draws in a panoramic style • Incredibly talented • Linear
DRAWING My own re-creations of skyline drawings by Stephen Wiltshire, however only choosing parts or particular buildings.
Skyline drawings of Cardiff From his inspiration I decided to create my own skyline images of Cardiff. Rough drawing in Cardiff Castle – ‘The House/Clocktower’
SILHOUETTES/OUTLINE Just drawing outlines of buildings or skylines, over lapping some of them.
Currently a design manager • American artist, now lives in Ireland • Rigid linear drawings • She uses ink to create some works • Often prints her works onto canvas’ in which she sells
RESEARCH WITH MATERIALS DECORATION PATTERNS Surface Pattern EXPERIMENTING USED ON WIDE RANGE OF MATERIALS
Cardiff castle and its’ patterns Cardiff Castle has many patterns that I noticed when visiting the attraction:. Cobbled pathways. The stairs . Patterns on the slate slabs on both floors and walls. Patterns on fabric within the ‘House’. Doors that had patterns on
COBBLED PATHS EXAMPLES STONES WITHIN WALLS
“RUB-INS” From these patterns I took ‘Rub-ins’, however some didn’t turn out as well as I hoped.
DEVELOPMENT • Over lapping • Lines • New image • Emerging silhouettes, skylines, surface patterns or textures together
