  3. Rethinking Programs • Do our programs respond to emerging needs of youth and education in 21st Century society? • How do we support staff in developing new skills? • Do our library policies and plans support new programs? • Do our administrative practices support new programs, especially those that involve technology?

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library • ImaginOn instituted Scratch workshops during the summer of 2009 as ‘block’ programs. • ‘Block’ programming is what we called our concept of guaranteeing an experience for visitors no matter what time of the day they came in. • Scratch lent itself well to the block model of having youth experiment with small parts of creating something and seeing results right away.

  8. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library • Hands on training sessions held to bring all staff up to speed on using the software. • Programs were held in either the computer lab (15 PCs) or with a laptop on a roving cart so that programs could be held where ever patrons were in the building.
