The Benefits of Educational NetworkingProfessional Communities Using Tools & Resources in a Virtual World For Educators to Learn, Support, & Collaborate Reference: “Teachers can find information on many topics (self-directed professional development), create links to student projects throughout the world, and access links to other wikis and blogs” (Solomon & Schrum, p. 293. ) I selected these two networks for professional development opportunities on our campus. I feel that many of our teachers would benefit from the tools and collaboration offered on these sites.

Two Educational Networks for Teachers & Educators Classroom 2.0 http://live.classroom20.com Tapped In http://tappedin.org Classroom20.com, the social network for those interested in Web 2.0 and Social Media in education. Tapped In is the online workplace of an international community of education professionals. K-12 teachers and librarians, professional development staff, teacher education faculty and students, and researchers engaging in professional development programs and informal collaborative activities with colleagues.

Classroom 2.0 Network • Contains discussions and forums • There are 55,540 international members • Groups to join including: Professional Development, Google App, E-Learning • Contains Webinars • Includes Videos & How To Guides • Chat Rooms & Workshop Information • Blogs Reference: “Some organizations are working to promote the growth of interaction about particular topics for their members” (Solomon & Schrum , p. 293)

A variety of systems are used to support teaching-learning activities in the school and the university and to satisfy lifelong learning needs with the help of the Web” (Cartelli, 2006, p. 114) Google Apps For Education Digital Skills Second Life Just a few of the many groups available to educators in Classroom 2.0– There are many more.
