Web Content Management Systems What is a Web CMS System? A webContent Management System is a content management system software used for managing content for the web. A Content Management System (CMS) differs from website builders like FrontPage or Dreamweaver in that a CMS allows non-technical users to make changes to an existing website with little or no training. Website building tools like FrontPage and Dreamweaver require more technical knowledge and training on average. A CMS is an easy-to-use tool that gives authorized users the ability to manage a website. A CMS is a website maintenance tool rather than a website creation tool.
Web Content Management Systems Why make use of a web CMS system? • Some advantages • Authorization management • Always housestyle compliant • Workflow possibilities • Easy maintenance of content for people with little web experience • Better monitoring of outdated pages, broken links etc.

IPS, Internet/Intranet Publishing Service Getting Started To have a web site in IPS, you will need to create and maintain pages in a Lotus Notes database. This database application is called the IPS Content Manager. With the IPS Content Manager you: 1. Define the hierarchical structure of your site. 2. Enter content to your site by creating web pages. You can enter plain text, but you can also add images, tables, links to other sites, etc. 3. Organize your pages in folders and thereby give your pages a logical place on your site. 4. Manage your content by giving the pages a status and an online period. The status and the online period together determine whether and when a page is published. Only pages with the status 'published' are online. 5. Manage your content creation process by defining user roles and user access.
IPS, Internet/Intranet Publishing Service Step 1. Organize content management process Step 2. Determine your position in the site hierarchy? Step 3. Determine in which region to deploy your site? Step 4. Request deployment via Site Manager Step 5. Building your site

Request Content Managament (1) You can request your CM via the Site manager application. Select 'File' - 'Open Database' from the Notes client. Enter: ehviss01/A/SERVER/PHILIPS (as the server name for the EMEA region)
Website Registry: Activating your friendly URL (1) When you fill in your Site Request Form in the Site Manager, you are required to fill in your 'site URL'. If initially it is not clear to you what URL you should use and you do want to proceed with the deployment of you site, you can enter a 'dummy' value for the time being like */*. If the URL you want to use for your site is clear to you, make sure when you fill in your URL that it is proceeded by 'http://'. In short, your URL should look something like: * http://pww.ips.philips.com/cis Filling in your URL in the Site Request Form in Site Manager, does NOT mean your URL is activated automatically. Once your Content Manager database has been deployed, you can only approach your site through your application code. For instance: http://ehvips01.diamond.philips.com/apps/i_dir/e1191301.nsf for the IPS Web Site.
Website Registry: Activating your friendly URL (2) AFTER you have developed your site and you want to 'go live' with it, you are supposed to request the activation of your URL through the Philips Website Registry application. http://pww.webreg.philips.com/apps/p_dir/e34304/e3430401.nsf/index.htm This application contains a workflow for approval and activation of the requested URL. The throughput time to activate your URL is depending on how soon the formal URL approver approves the URL. Once the URL has been approved you have to forward the approval email you receive to IPS.Support@philips.com stating the URL, the application code and the production server. It will take approximately 5 working days for the requested URL to become activated.
Statistics The Site Report Center offers site statistics for IPS site owners. IPS site owners can create reports which cover one or more IPS databases. The reports are updated daily and provide detailed insight in the usage of your site(s). http://ehvisc01.diamond.philips.com/apps/i_dir/e3270401.nsf/
Set up CM: Building your site (1) What is the IPS Tool? The IPS Content Manager is a tool for non-technical users, supporting contentcreation and maintenance of Philips Intranet web sites. IPS Content Manager uses templates for publishing intranet sites to automatically implement a uniform look and feel and a consistent navigation.
Set up CM: Building your site (2): ‘Roles matrix’ Navigation Items to create the structure of your site Depending on the role assigned to you by the owner of your IPS Content Manager, you are able to create Navigation Items. Only owners and chief editors can do so. If you are an author or editor, it is assumed that the Navigation Items have been created for you.
