Definition of Kanban Kanban Syllabification: (kan·ban) Pronunciation: /ˈkänˌbän/ noun (also kanban system) a Japanese manufacturing system in which the supply of components is regulated through the use of a card displaying a sequence of specifications and instructions, sent along the production line. • an instruction card used in a kanban system. Terminology • Kanban Item: An existing general item in LN that is designated as a Kanban item by its presence in the session “Kanban Item Information”. • Kanban Location: The space where the Kanban exists. Does not have to correspond to a LN location. • Kanban Loop: Links a Kanban Item to a Kanban Location. It defines a Kanban in terms of which Kanban Location it is used. • Kanban ID: Identifies a specific Kanban • Kanban Request: A request to replenish the stock of the Kanban item at one of its Kanban Locations. • Kanban Supplier: Suppliers (Buy-From Business Partners) identified for supplying Kanban Items thru purchase orders.
