Objective: Create the geologic timeline. • Pick up rubric and white paper from front table • Weekly WS #21: INTRO • If 1mm = 1 million years • How many millimeters is 10MYA? • 10millimeters • How many millimeters would be between 543MYA and 488MYA? • 543 – 488 = 55millimeters • OUTRO: None
Geologic Timeline Project • You will be working with your desk partner to create a geologic timeline of the Phanerozoic Eon and it’s eras and periods. You will be scaling down the Earth’s millions of years into millimeters. On your timeline, you will include facts for each eon, era, and period as well as adding some color and pictures to brighten up your project.
Set-up • Hold paper horizontal and tape together (no gaps) • Draw a line from left to right • Mark the very left side of the line with 543MYA • Create a Key Box in one of the corners • 1 millimeter = 1 million years
Pg. 174 Procedure • Advice: Measure and label periods first, then era’s, then do the eonlast. • Start with the Cambrian. • To determine how many millimeters wide each eon, era and period are, follow the steps below. • Subtract the two numbers • Ex.: Cambrian Period = 543 – 488 = 55 • Measure that number in millimeters • 55 millimeters • Label the period with the start and end number and name in middle • Ex: 488MYA 543MYA Cambrian Period
