GOALS OF AVE EXEMPLO With lifelong learning approach settling, the importance of transparency of competences and making non-formal and informal learning outcomes visible has surfaced. Ave Exemplo aims for a better recognition of skills acquired in non-formal learning. Outcomes of the project include: • Evaluation, • Documentation, • Development and promotion of competences, and, • Implementation of tools for certification.
Tools for recognizing non/in-formally acquired competences: Assessment of the current level of competencies Competence Card for workplace In-house development of professional competencies RARPA - Recognizing and Recording Progress and Achievement Support and evaluation of the transfer of organized vocational training into professional practice Transparency of Competencies e-portfolio: an electronic tool to portray the users skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours that she / he is acquiring in day-to-day experiences. MAIN RESULTS
LESSONS LEARNT • Validation of non‑formal and informal learning is increasingly seen as a way to improve lifelong and lifewide learning. • More and more European countries are emphasizing the importance of making visible and valuing learning that takes place outside formal education and training institutions. • Countries already having a validation system for informally acquired competences are mostly working with portfolio approaches.
CHALLENGES • Selection of suitable tools Simplicity in use and cost effectiveness are an important factor. • Integrating ePortfolio New method for promoting self organized learning. • Coping with areas of conflict Finding the right method - Self evaluation vs. evaluation by others - Simplicity of use vs. Validity of results • Providing employer support Overburdening staff managers with the multitude of tasks for competence assessment • Providing employee support Examination atmosphere and stress should be avoided: the point is to recognize and promote strengths and to close gaps
