Advisor Version Release & Monthly Update Changes – v4.3, v4.4, v4.5, v4.6, v4.7, v5.0
OverviewThis is a summary of changes, bug fixes, and enhancements that have been made to Advisor, starting with Version 4.3, which was introduced in June, 2004. There four major releases, which are, v4.4, which was introduced in February, 2005, v4.5, which was released on May 2006, v4.6, that was introduced in April 2007, and v4.7, which was released in may 2008.In addition to the changes that were made with these major releases, many smaller changes have occurred during monthly updates between the major releases mentioned above. These are described as well. The number of new ratings (FRs), that were added to Advisor during the version releases and monthly updates are also noted. Lastly, an estimate was made regarding the number of components added. These consist of Cummins options (AF, DA, DF, EC, EM, FA, FF, FH, FW, HD, LG, OP, ST), and supplier components (typically Fleetguard air cleaners and mufflers, and Donaldson air cleaners). An appendix with a description of each change follows in slides 6-38.

v4.3 ChangesReport Format -All reports are now in HTML format, and can be exported to html file. All reports are now saved in the database so reports do not have to be rerun, unless something has changed in the review. Finalized reviews will store the reports.Intake Tool – Revised air cleaner selection -The air cleaner selection screen has been revised to display a drop down box of Fleetguard air cleaners that match the air flow of selected engine. Exhaust Tool – Revised muffler selection -The muffler/silencer selection screen has been revised to display a drop down box of Nelson mufflers/silencers that match the exhaust flow of selected engine. Torsional Tool – sections optional -The Model and Free Response sections of the Torsional Tool are now automatically bypassed in a new review.Fuel Tool– fuel tank volume -The calculation for fuel tank volume has been corrected. Previously the load factor was not being taken into account and the tool was overestimating the required fuel tank volume.
v4.3 Changes, cont.Optional Sections – default to green -In a new design review, the Engine Options section is optional and will default to a green check mark.In a new installation review, the Engine Options, Non-Cummins supplied parts and General observations are optional and will default to a green check mark. Removing components -Advisor v4.3 gives you the ability to remove components from a model. This includes charge air coolers, radiators, fans and others. Previously you could only replace a chosen component with a new one.Database Analyzer - Additional features -“Delete Purged Tools and Reviews” removes deleted reviews from users’ database, allowing users to reduce the size of Advisor database. “Compact Database” can further reduce the size of your database.Other Miscellaneous Improvements/Fixes -Updated AEBs, performance curves, datasheets and installation drawings.Updated option graphicsImproved Quick Start GuideReview examples updated
v4.3 Changes, cont.Checklists - Users can now type “Y” or “N” in the checklist response boxes. The fields will auto populate with Yes or No. Users can use arrow keys and letter keys to navigate through most of the checklist without using their mouse to click the drop down box on the right. This feature will NOT work for multi-select drop down boxes.Engine Options - Options chosen from the “Options” section will now print on the reportNon Cummins Supplied Parts - Will now print on the Installation Review reportCooling Tool -The radiator data now prints correctly on the reportEquipment Type & Characteristics – A new criticality parameter of High Duty Cycle has been added to the criticality list. This parameter will be marked as “Critical” if you have selected Front End Loader as your equipment type. For some engine families, special hardware has been released to meet the demanding front end loader duty cycle. This new parameter will guide you toward the correct rating for your front end loader application.
v4.3 Changes, cont.Engine Selection -Maximum acceptable power tolerance. Advisor should not display an issue if the user requests a power tolerance of +/- 5%. Cummins default value is 5%. Previously an erroneous warning message would sometimes be displayed.Engine Selection -For electronic engines. If the user requested high idle value does not match the high idle value for the chosen rating, no warning will be displayed. High idle is a customer adjustable value for electronic engines.Electrical Tool -The cranking circuit in new reviews will now work correctly when more than one battery is selected. Previously problems were seen if the user tried to make changes to their circuit if it contained more than one battery. If you have an existing (pre v4.3) review with an electrical tool that can not be completed, you will need to reselect your cranking circuit. DO NOT click on the Next button until you have reselected your circuit. Electronics Tool -A new observation section has been added to the Electronics Tool.38 new FRs
July 2004Printing Issue -If the right side of your reports are getting cut off when you print, please go to Internet Explorer, click on File, then Page Setup. Change the left and right margins to 0.5”. This will fix the problem.Intake and Exhaust Analytical Tools for User Defined Engines -The intake and exhaust tools have been fixed so that they can be used with user defined engines. A bug was found in v4.3 that didn’t allow the user to select an air cleaner or muffler for a user defined engine.Exhaust Tool -The exhaust tool has been revised so that the user may choose only a muffler with no additional piping required. Previously some piping was required in addition to the muffler.Advisor crash when Importing, Exporting or Creating a New Revision -Some users have been getting an error message “Advisor has encountered a problem and must shut down” when importing, exporting or creating a new revision. This issue has been fixed in this update.
July 2004, cont.User Entered Notes -In the conversion of reviews from Advisor v4.2 to v4.3, some user-entered notes (including bypass notes) may have disappeared. This update fixes that issue. Even after you run the update, there still may be very few instances where the bypass notes will not reappear and must be reentered.6 new FRsAugust 2004Editable excel spreadsheet for Advisor input screens -This worksheet (or portions of it) can be sent to the OEM for them to complete and return.14 new FRsOctober 200430 new Nelson mufflers added4 new FRs

If “Yes” answered, user not required to fill out the table listing the machine components that draw power from the engine.Requirements / Features Section -The required questions in the Requirements / Features section have been reduced to three questions. Other questions defaulted or left blank.
v4.4 Changes, cont.Typical Cycle Section -If review is for the repower of an existing machine, then there is no need to complete the entire duty cycle table. Only need to fill in the Average Power and Average Speed values. A new question about throttle position interruption has been added to more accurately determine when a continuous rating is appropriate.Select Engine Section -A new screen has been added to the Select Engine section. The “Issue Resolution” screen allows users to review the engine selection issues with the customer. Any issues flagged by Advisor that are deemed insignificant or acceptable, may be recoded as “Acceptable Issues”. Emissions Certification changed to a major deliverable issue.
v4.4 Changes, cont.Installation Review – Bypass Testing Sections -Advisor v4.4 gives the user the ability to bypass the testing section in the following tools, provided certain predicted criteria from the Design Review are met:IntakeExhaustFuelElectricalAir Cleaner, Muffler, and Charge Air Cooler Data -Single point flow restriction points for these components can now be entered, rather than an entire curve.Advisor Files and Backups – User Defined -Users have the ability to choose where to store Advisor and backup files.Revised Quick Start Guide -The Emissions Tier Level has been added to the Browse Engine and Select Engine screens.Other Miscellaneous Improvements/Fixes -Updated performance curves, datasheets and installation drawings.
