  3. Eclipse Facts • An eclipse is a shadow, either on the Earth or on the moon • Umbra- area of a shadow that causes a total eclipse to occur • Penumbra- area of a shadow that causes a partial eclipse to occur

  5. Lunar Eclipse • Moon gets dark-lunar eclipse (2-5 per year) • Lunar eclipse can last a few hours • A lunar eclipse happens at a Full Moon, when the Moon's tilted orbit brings it into the Earth's shadow, which can then be seen cast onto the Moon.

  6. Eclipse Lab 1. Make two balls out of clay. • Earth 4cm in diameter • Moon 1 cm in diameter 2. Place the two balls about 15 cm apart. 3. Hold the flashlight about 15 cm away from the larger ball 4. Drawing 1: shine the light on the larger ball and sketch. 5. Drawing 2: Move the light to the opposite side and shine on smaller ball. 6. Answer questions.
