WELDSHOP RULES • NO TOBACCO IN WELDSHOP DESIGNATED AREA`S ARE OUTSIDE ON MEZZANINE OR THE BOTTOM OF THE STEPS • NO FOOD OR DRINKS,WATER ONLY, YOU MAY USE THE MEETING ROOM FOR DRINKS, SNACKS OR LUNCHES • NO WELDERS ARE ALLOWED IN ANOTHER WELDERS BOOTH AT ANY TIME (BOTH WELDERS TESTS WILL BE REJECTED) • ALL WELDERS MUST CLEAN THEIR BOOTH OR TEST COUPON WILL NOT BE SENT OUT FOR X- RAY
IDENTIFICATIONS • ALL WELDERS MUST HAVE A CURRENT U.A. CARD AND A VALID DRIVRERS LICENSE OR IDENTIFICATION • LOCAL 577 TEST FACILITY WILL NOT TEST A DELINQENT MEMBER FROM LOCAL 577 OR ANY OTHER LOCAL. • ALL WELDERS MUST FILL OUT AN ID SHEET ALONG WITH THE TEST NUMBER OR NUMBERS THEY ARE TAKING .
U. A. TEST STANDS • WELDING TO THE TEST STAND IS NOT PERMITTED • THE U.A. TEST STANDS ARE ABLE TO ADJUST HEIGHTS AND A PIN TO SET (2G), (5G) AND (6G) POSITIONS. THE STAND ALSO HAS A THREADED SET PIN TO KEEP THE TEST ASSEMBLY FIRM FROM MOVEMENT. • PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE PINS EXCEPT WHEN MOVING POSITION OF TESTS. MAKE SURE PINS ARE BACK IN THE STAND BEFORE LEAVING. THREADED SET PIN FOR LESS MOVEMENT SET PIN FOR DIFFERENT POSITIONS
U. A. TEST STANDS • TEST COUPONS CAN BE PREPPED AND GROUND ON IN THE (5G) POSITION, AS SHOWN BELOW
U. A. TEST STANDS • WELDING TO THE TEST STAND IS NOT PERMITTED • TEST STANDS ARE MADE TO ROTATE TO THREE DIFFERENT POSITIONS. (2G) (5G) (6G) 2G 5G 6G
TESTING PROCEDURES • TESTING SPECIFICATION PAPERS WILL BE HANDED OUT FOR WHAT TEST THE WELDER IS TAKING • ALL WELDERS SHOULD CAREFULLY READ THE SPECIFICATION SHEET TO KNOW WHAT IS EXPECTED DURING THE TESTING PROCESS • FAILING TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN A REJECTED TEST
FIT UP & TACK UP • USING A PIECE OF 2” ANGLE, THE WELDER CAN APPLY A 1/4” TO 1/2” TACK AND THEN ROLL IT TO PUT 3 TO 4 EVENLY SPACED TACKS AROUND A 2” TEST COUPON. IF THE TACKS ARE OVER THE ALLOWED 1/2 OF AN INCH , THEY MUST BE FEATHERED BACK OR THE TEST WILL BE REJECTED.
FIT UP & TACK UP • USING A PIECE OF 2” ANGLE, THE WELDER CAN APPLY A 1/2” TO 5/8” TACK AND THEN ROLL IT TO PUT 3 TO 4 EVENLY SPACED TACKS AROUND A 6” TEST COUPON. THE OTHER OPTION IS TO PLACE THE TEST STAND IN THE 2 G POSITION AND TACK IT AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURES BELOW. IF THE TACKS ARE OVER THE ALLOWED 5/8 OF AN INCH , THEY MUST BE FEATHERED BACK OR THE TEST WILL BE REJECTED.
FIT UP & TACK UP • ONCE THE TEST COUPONS ARE TACKED TOGETHER, THE ATR (ATHORIZED TESTING REPRESENATIVE) WILL INSPECT THE FIT UP AND TACKS • AFTER THE ATR APPROVAL, THE TEST COUPON SHALL BE ROLLED TO THE (6G) POSITON AND THE LETTER (T) IS TO BE STAMPED OR MARK WITH A PAINT MARKER AT THE TOP OF THE TEST ASSEMBLY BEFORE CONTINUING THE TEST. • AS ILLUSTRATED IN THE PICTURES BELOW. TT T
ROOT PASS • AFTER THE FIT UP AND TACK UP IS APPROVED. THE WELDER WILL HAVE A TIME LIMIT TO TAKE THE TEST. DEPENDING ON WHAT TEST THE WELDER IS TAKING. THE TIME ALLOWED WILL BE ON THE SPECIFICATION SHEET. THE WELDER MUST WELD THE ROOT PASS, IN AN UP HILL PROGRESSION . • DO NOT EVER REMOVE TEST ASSEMBLY FROM THE TEST STAND UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO BY THE ATR. (GROUNDS FOR REJECTION) • MAKE SURE THE ROOT PASS IS TIED IN AND EDGES ARE BROKE DOWN BEFORE CONTACTING THE ATR. (THERE WILL BE NO REPAIRS AFTER THE ATR HAS INSPECTED THE ROOT PASS) • ONCE THE ROOT PASS IS IN, THE WELDER WILL CONTACT THE ATR FOR APPROVAL TO CONTINUE THE TEST. • AFTER APPROVAL OF THE ROOT PASS, THE WELDER SHALL WELD THE TEST ASSEMBLY OUT COMPLETELY.
WELD OUT & COVER PASS • ONCE THE ROOT PASS IS ACCEPTED, THE WELDER IS TO FILL TEST ASSEMBLY IN AN UPHILL PROGRESSION. • AFTER FILLING THE TEST ASSEMBLY, THE COVER PASS WILL BE APPLIED ACCORDING TO THE SPECIFICATIONS ON THE WELD BEING TAKEN. • ONCE THE TEST IS COMPLETED. THERE WILL BE NO GRINDING ON THE FINISHED TEST. • WELDERS ARE ALLOWED TO GRIND ON STOPS AND STARTS, BUT THE COMPLETED WELD TEST SHALL NOT BE GROUND ON OR USE A FILE TO RING THE WELD • COVER PASSES MUST BE UNIFORM, NO UNDER FILL, TO MUCH REINFORCEMENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED AND ALL STRINGERS MUST BE TIED IN PROPERLY! • IF THE COMPLETED TEST HAS BEEN GROUND ON THE TEST WILL BE VISUALLY REJECTED!
STAMP OR MARK TESTS • AFTER COMPLETION OF THE TEST, THE WELDER WILL CONTACT THE ATR FOR INSPECTION OF THE TEST BEFORE TAKING THE ASSEMBLY OUT OF THE STAND. • (AGAIN NEVER TAKE A TEST ASSEMBLY OUT OF THE STAND UNTIL DIRECTED TO BY THE ATR) • ONCE THE ATR INSPECTS AND APPROVES THE TEST, THEN THE WELDER WILL STAMP OR MARK THE TEST ASSEMBLY. • THE WELDER WILL STAMP OR MARK THE TEST NEXT TO THE (T) THAT IDENTIFIES THE TOP OF THE TEST. • THE WELDER WILL STAMP OR MARK THE - TEST NUMBER - THE WELDERS INTITIALS - AND THE LAST 4 DIGITS OF THEIR U. A. CARD NUMBER OR LAST 4 DIGITS OF THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.
STAMP OR MARK TESTS • BELOW IS AN ILLUSTRATION ON THE CORRECT WAY TO MARK A TEST ASSEMBLY. • EXAMPLE : JOHN DOE IS TAKING TEST NUMBER 21 AND HIS U.A. CARD NUMBER IS 1651234 HE WILL STAMP OR MARK (21JD1234) NEXT TO THE (T) ON THE TEST. T 2 1 J D 1 2 3 4
CLEAN UP BOOTHS • ALL WELDERS MUST CLEAN THEIR WELD BOOTHS PROPERLY OR THEIR TEST WILL NOT BE SENT OUT FOR X- RAY. • ANY WELDER THAT REFUSES OR DOES NOT CLEAN THE TEST BOOTH PROPERLY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TEST AT LOCAL 577 !!!
FAILED TESTS • ANY WELDER THAT FAILS A TEST AT LOCAL 577 MUST PUT IN 8 HOURS OF TRAINING AND HAVE AT LEAST 30 DAYS BEFORE TAKING ANOTHER TEST
