  3. Why PBS ? • Components identifier • For the history of each component • Easy link to QA and production contracts • Identifier of cables • Tool for logistics • Identifier of components during assembly • Identifier of components during operation or maintenance • ….

  4. In practice we have to define identifiers • We need to define a label strategy with reference to project, subproject, consortia, position in the detector, sequential number, …. • We have to translate all this in barcodes and/or QR codes. 14 to 20 digits • We have to invent practical solutions on how to deal with the labels (material, size, temperature resistance, purity contamination, longevity, ..) • We have to provide a central database behind all this • and tools to be used for reading it in the various facilities (labs, ITF, storage, clean rooms, detector, CUC, …)

  5. In practice • This is the typical job and a responsibility a collaborating institution (or a cluster) can take • It must be adopted by the entire collaboration without exceptions • We will need resources for the necessary reading tools and database

  6. In practice • The PBS is one of the database tools we will need to integrate: • PBS • WBS • Racks wizard • Cablotec • Logistics database • membership database • appointments database
