It is possible to trek Nepal throughout the year; each season presents different landscapes, environment and experience. • Trekkers need to prepare little bit differently depending on the time of the month they are travelling. • There are two peak seasons that delivers optimal trekking experience in Nepal i.e. autumn & spring. But trekking Nepal in monsoon and winter has its own advantages.
Trekking Seasons in Nepal • Fall is the peak season for trekking in Nepal with excellent weather and extra-ordinary views. Moderate temperatures, clear sky and outstanding views makes it great time to trek Nepal. Some occasional storms may dump snow at alpine altitudes. • Popular Treks: Everest Base Camp Trek, Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, Everest Three Pass Trek, Everest Gokyo Trek and Annapurna Circuit Trek are few treks popular in autumn.
Spring (March – May) • Spring is another popular season for trekking in Nepal. Different varieties of wild flowers, especially rhododendron in the hillside makes it a haunting paradise in spring season. The temperature is mildly warm at lower elevation and the mountain views are fascinating and temperature is moderate. • Annapurna Base Camp Trekking, Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Annapurna circuit trek, Manaslu trek, Everest region trek and Langtang village trek are few best treks in spring.
Winter (December – February) • Winter is known for snowfalls at higher altitude in Himalayas. Though it gets colder in night, the day remains clear with blue sky and relatively less trekkers on the trial. • Trekkers must be selective to choosing the trekking destination. We suggest you not to opt for high pass trek and remote area treks. The trail routes are often covered with snow making the approaches invisible. You must also check the availability of teahouse as it remains closed due to heavy snowfalls and extreme cold. • Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Everest Base Camp Trek, Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek and Everest view trek are some few best treks in winter.
Summer (June – August) • Summer starting from June – Mid September is monsoon in Nepal and receives heavy downpours. These times are ideal for keen botanist as the alpine valleys and meadows remain blossom with flowers and lush vegetation. • Monsoon is best for rain protected area trekking in Nepal. Rain shadow area are those where the rain clouds are not reachable due to high mountains. • Upper Dolpo Trek, Upper Mustang Trek and ManangTilicho Lake Trek are famous treks in Nepal during Monsoon.
