WHERE I AM NOW? • BHS • The classes I have taken or I am taking at BHS will help me pursue an Associates' Degree in Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technology.
AFTER GRADUATING BHS I WILL ATTEND………. • North Georgia Technical College • I will pursue an A.S Degree in Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technology. • A two-year Associate’s degree program includes science and clinical laboratory science courses.
After Receiving an A.S Degree . . . • The program at North Georgia Technical Colleges will prepare me for a national certification examination recognized by the Georgia Department of Human Resources. • After passing the national certification examination recognized by GDHR within 18 moths of employment in-field I may continue to work as a CLT in Georgia.
Requirements For Medical Laboratory Technician LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION • Certification of medical laboratory technicians is required for licensure in some states and by some individual employers. • Although certification is not required to enter the occupation in all cases, employers typically prefer to hire certified technicians. • Medical laboratory technicians can obtain a general certification as a medical laboratory technician, or a certification in a specialty(phlebotomy or medical biology).
Requirements For Medical Laboratory Technician SKILLS NEEDED • Understand how to operate complex machinery. • Skill while working with their hands(They work closely with needles and precise laboratory instruments and must be able to handle these tools effectively.) • Must have an eye for detail to obtain the most accurate results possible due to the importance of their work. • Have stamina when spending extended time sitting and analyzing a specimen, or when on their feet for long periods during the workday.
Requirements For Medical Laboratory Technician Job Outlook • Employment of medical laboratory technicians is expected to grow by 15 percent between 2010 and 2020. • An increase in the aging population will lead to a greater need to diagnose medical conditions, such as cancer or type 2 diabetes, through laboratory procedures. • Medical laboratory technologists and technicians will be needed to use and maintain the equipment needed for diagnosis and treatment.
SUPPORTING CREDENTIALS? • Add on to your education a Bachelor’s Degree in medical laboratory technology (includes courses in chemistry, biology, microbiology, mathematics, and statistics, as well as courses on clinical laboratory skills, management, and education) and become a Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technologist.

If required for advancement, credentialing agencies include: • The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and American Medical Technologists, offering national testing for the title of Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) • The National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel, offering the Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) certification
