National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) • CDC year-long program to reduce risk of developing type 2 diabetes by ~60% • 16 weekly session and then monthly to complete the year • Goal: lose 7% of body weight through meeting daily fat gram goals and exercising 150 minutes weekly
Eligible Participants • Must NOT be diagnosed with diabetes MUST: • Be at least 18 years old • Have a BMI of 25 or greater • Be at risk for developing type 2 diabetes
Risk Assessment • At risk for developing diabetes: • Score 9 or higher on CDC risk assessment • Have lab values = prediabetes • HbA1c: 5.7 – 6.4% • Fasting plasma glucose = 100 -125 mg/dL • 2 hour plasma glucose = 140 – 199 mg/dL • Had gestational diabetes or a baby weighing over 9 lbs at birth
NDPP with County Employees 2015 Employee NDPP Class (Feb 2015 – Feb 2016) • Started with 14 participants. • During the program, all but two participants reached their goal weight. • The average weight loss from beginning to end across the participants was 13 lbs. • The “biggest loser” lost 29 pounds.
NDPP with County Employees 2016 Employee NDPP Class (Feb 2016 – ongoing to Feb 2017) • Started with 15 participants. • By the 10 month mark, 3 participants reached their goal weight. • The average weight loss from beginning to 10 months across all participants was 6 lbs. • The “biggest loser” lost 19 pounds.
NDPP with Community 2015 Hornell YMCA Community NDPP Class (October 2015 – October 2016) • Started with 10 participants. • During the program, 6 participants reached their goal weight. • The average weight loss from beginning to end across the participants was 12 lbs. • The “biggest loser” lost 26 pounds.
