Gene Kelly was an amazing actor/director who was way ahead of his time in the musical movies. The tap shoes that he uses in this scene are common iconography in musical films.

Two different groups battling it out in dance and song. In this scene we see the display of feelings through song which is also common in musical films.

The passion and anger felt over rent prices and being sick is felt by all watching this film. A common scene in this film was the argument between two of the main actors through song. A awesome and powerful fight.
