  2. Density is the property that determines whether something floats or sinks in a liquid

  3. The formula for density is... Density=mass/volume • Mass is the weight of the substance • Volume is the amount of space that the substance takes up

  4. Everything has a density! • Today we observed density in liquids through our experiment. However gasses and solids also have a density. • Can anyone think of a time when they took a breath and the air seemed heavier?

  5. Maybe in the shower or a room with a humidifier? • Somewhere close to the ocean or a big body of water that is more humid? • Why does the air seem heavier?

  6. Back to our formula... • In the previous examples water was added to the air in its gaseous form increasing the mass of the air. The volume would stay the same as it had been which would make the density increase. • D=m/v
