Well -being • The verb “estar” is used to ask about and to state well-being and health. • ¿Cómoestás? • Estoybien. • No estoybien. • ¿Cómoestá Juan? • Juan estáenfermo.
Estar for location • When we want to ask or tell location we use the verb “estar” (to be). • The verb “estar” is used to tell the location of: • Person(s) • Place(s) • Thing(s)
Asking the location of person(s), place(s), and thing(s) • To ask location, we use the interrogative word ¿Dónde? (Where?) • The question is formed as follows: ¿Dónde+ (the present tense of estar)+ (the person, place, or thing)? OJO: The present tense of “estar” agrees with the person, place, or thing, which is the subject of the sentence.

Telling the location of person(s), place(s), and thing(s) • To tell the location we state the following: • Person(s) + estarin the present + location. • Place(s) +estarin the present + location. • Thing(s) + estarin the present + location. Note: Subject + verb+ rest.
Adverbs that describe the location • Some simple words to describe location are: • aquí (here) • ahí (there) • allí ( way over there, farther away)

Using prepositions of place to describe location • In addition to adverbs, prepositions of place can be used to describe location after the verb “estar.” • Common prepositions of place can be found on page 54 of the Vistas text.
