What is the Diploma Programme? • A complete program of studies: • Two years to complete (Juniors and Seniors) • 7 courses, a 4000 word essay, and Creativity, Action, and Service projects • 3 Higher Level (all 3 are two year courses) • 3 Standard Level (2 of 3 are one year courses) • Multiple assessments • Internal assessment • External assessment • Oral and Written
How do we prepare for IB? • As a school district, we are training teachers, working with consultants, and applying for authorization • As a campus, we are advertising what the IB program and gathering information for interested students • We are encouraging students to sign up for the best courses to lead the way to the IB programme!
How do students prepare for IB? • Enroll in rigorous courses • Algebra I • Spanish I • Participate in extra-curricular activities • Increase involvement in school activities
How does an IB Diploma benefitstudents? • Meets the needs of highly motivated and academically talented students. • Provides students with intellectual, social, and critical perspective of the world • Requires appreciation and understanding of cultural diversity • Develops critical thinking skills and increases processing skills of international-mindedness concepts
Other Benefits • Texas high school seniors earing the IB diploma with scores of four or better are awarded a total of 24 semester hours credit at any Texas public university. • Many highly reputed colleges and universities recognize IB graduates and grant college credit ona per-class basis • IB is internationally recognized for its high standards
How do students get into IB? • IB is open to any student who has the interest in tand work ethic required for engaging in highly rigorous coursework that prepares them for a global perspective • Contact your school counselor and let them know of your interest • Enroll in classes that challenge and prepare you for IB coursework • Participate in extra-curricular activities and community service projects that will prepare you for the IB research
