  1. What to teach? Presentation on potential professional training outputs from SPICOSA Jeremy Hills, Envision, UK

  2. 1. Outline the approach – what and how. 2. Deciding focus training course content. Aim

  3. SAF Lots of other training (Appendix B). SAF – to bring together many elements. Intend to use 2 types of courses: SAF Introduction: understanding a common framework within local study sites (SSA’s) ICZM: using aspects of the SAF framework to advance ICZM in SSA areas. Three stage approach to implementation: 1) piloting, 2) package development, 3) building training capacity, 4) dissemination and uptake.

  4. SAF – 1 Cork SAF – 2 Gdansk SAF Training package ICZM – 1 Cork + ICZM Training package ICZM - 2 Gdansk + Training capacity in SSA’s ToT Node 5 + Process Products

  5. Focus of SAF training – elements of the SAF Causal linkages – state variables, stable points, attractors, thresholds. Social analysis – stakeholder analysis, PRA. Economic analysis – contingent, bequest, existence value. Systems information requirements – data amount, type, validity, quality, representiveness. Simulations – virtual scenarios, modelling outputs, fly-through. Observational considerations – what to measure, where how. Decision support systems – multi-criteria analysis, tools & matrices, modelling. Examples of best practice – there are none at present

  6. Focus of SAF training – which elements? Need SAF to be a framework relevant for stakeholders / managers from SSA. Need SAF to be locally tailored to SSA context. Which elements of the SAF framework are most important to train? Or There is not enough time to cover every aspects in details in the training – so in light of our experience in coastal management – which are the key areas which are relevant to stakeholders?
