  2. CITY OF PORT PHILLIP SNAPSHOT The City of Port Phillip is located south of the Melbourne city centre, on the northern shore of Port Phillip Bay. Port Phillip is known and treasured by many for its urban village feel and artistic expression. The major village precincts of Bay Street (Port Melbourne), Clarendon Street (South Melbourne), Fitzroy and Acland streets (St Kilda) and Carlisle Street (Balaclava) provide a variety of retail, leisure and entertainment experiences, each with their own character and cultural expression.

Previous Consultation • 5 JUNE 2013 - PTV commenced community consultation for Tram Route 96 upgrade • 23 JULY 2013 - CoPP passes motion to propose alternative options to PTV • 27 AUG 2013 - CoPP forms Community Reference Groups – 3 meetings held • additional background reports on Economic and Traffic impacts are commissioned • 4 additional Concept options developed between PTV, CoPP and community • 12 Nov 2013 - Option 4 (which includes the closure of Acland Street to through traffic and establishes a new civic plaza) is endorsed at Council meeting

Council Commitments “..an holistic, place-based view of the Fitzroy Street and Acland Street precincts to ensure Council can capitalise on our community’s assets and potential by creating public spaces and streets that are active, vibrant and safe; …Commits to undertaking further community consultation that will get our community involved, in collaboration with the relevant Government agencies…” Page 2
