The College of Arts, Humanities & Law and the College of Social Science at the University of Leicester, in collaboration with East Midlands Universities Association “Creative Cities” Professor Franco Bianchini (Leeds Metropolitan University) Wednesday 24th March, 5.30pm, Attenborough Building (Film Theatre), University of Leicester, with a reception afterwards in the Senior Common Room, Level 5, Charles Wilson Building. Professor Bianchini is the author of a number of books on urban themes, including Urban Mindscapes of Europe, Cultural Policy and Urban Regeneration, as well as the groundbreaking, The Creative City. He will continue the series of lectures on “The City and the Country”, hosted by universities across the East Midlands, by discussing European comparisons with Leicester and other medium-size cities. Franco Bianchini has acted as advisor and researcher for many organizations including Arts Council England, the UK government's Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Council of Europe and the European Commission. Next event: Wednesday, 5th May, 5.30pm, Attenborough Building (Film Theatre) Adrian Jones will speak on the theme of “Can planning save the city and the countryside?” Adrian Jones was Director of Planning and Transport for Nottingham City Council and more recently Sustainable Development Director for emda. He has worked as a consultant on the Leicestershire eco town proposal.
