  2. When Rome fell, the empire was split into various kingdoms, headed by barbarian chiefs and kings.

  3. The Dark Ages had begun in Europe.

  4. With no Roman army to protect trade routes, traveling and trading decreased dramatically.

  5. Western Europeans became isolated from the rest of the world.

  6. The Roman Catholic faith continued on despite the fall of the Roman Empire.

  7. Christianity was the common thread throughout Europe.

  8. The Franks were one of the few powerful Christian kingdoms during this time.

  9. Clovis was a barbarian king who converted to Christianity.

  10. Clovis begins the Frankish dynasty.The Franks eventually evolve into the modern country of France.
