  3. The Hunger Games: Chapter 1 “Think About” Questions: • Would you like to live in District 12? Explain. • How is Panem an oppressive country? • Do you think there are places like Panem on earth today?

The Hunger Games: Chapter 1 • Why does Buttercup hate Katniss? • Why is District 12 surrounded by fences? • How is Katniss' mother different from other residents of the Seam? • Why don't Gale and Katniss run away and live in the woods? • What is the Hob? • Describe the Reaping system. How is it unfair? • How many Reaping entries will Katniss have in her 16th year? • What are the Hunger Games?

  5. The Reaping Read the following questions to yourself and construct an answer in your head. Then, turn to a neighbor and compare your responses. • Do you feel that the Reaping is a just way of memorializing the past? • Do you believe that you would survive the Hunger Games? Why or why not?
