Our Spheres. By: Isaac Skyberg. The Lithosphere. It is the crust and the rigid part of the Earths mantle. It is the solid outer section of Earth which includes Earth’s crust. The Lithosphere extends from the surface of Earth to a depth of about 44 to 62 miles.

The Lithosphere • It is the crust and the rigid part of the Earths mantle. • It is the solid outer section of Earth which includes Earth’s crust. • The Lithosphere extends from the surface of Earth to a depth of about 44 to 62 miles. • This relatively cool and rigid section of Earth is believed to “float” on top of the warmer, non-rigid, and partially melted material below. • Below the Lithosphere the temperature is believed to reach 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit, which is warm enough to allow rock material to flow if pressurized.
The Hydrosphere • The Hydrosphere includes: oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, and ponds. • It is every part of Earth that is water. • The world’s oceans contain 97% of water in the Hydrosphere, most of which is salt water. • The Hydrosphere covers about 75% of the surface of Earth and is home for many plants and animals. • The hydrosphere, in a way, is like the Atmosphere because it is always in motion. • Definition: The part of Earth that contains water.
The Atmosphere • The Atmosphere is made up of a layer of gases. • Scientists say that many of the gases in our Atmosphere were ejected into the air by early volcanoes. • At that time there would have been little or no free oxygen surrounding the Earth. • Free oxygen may have been added to the Atmosphere by primitive organisms. • The Atmosphere acts as a gigantic filter, keeping out ultraviolet radiation while letting in the sun’s warming rays. • Definition: A layer of gases that surrounds the Earth.
The Biosphere • The Biosphere contains all living organisms. • The Biosphere is a life-supporting global ecosystem, were each living thing depends on each other and the environment. • Many factors affect the biosphere and our life on Earth. • There are large factors such as the distance between the Earth and the Sun. • If our planet were closer to the sun it might be to hot to support life, if we were farther it might be to cold.
How The Spheres Interact The Atmosphere interacts with all living things because it contains oxygen. The Lithosphere contains rocks and minerals which are helpful for building materials for various things. The Hydrosphere interacts with all the other spheres providing water and nutrience for all living things, and also helps wash and clean other things. All of the above comprise the Biosphere. The Biosphere interacts with all other spheres as well (especially the human race) because everything people or animals do effects the air, water, or land
