Geospace Environmental Modeling • One of three sister NSF programs in heliophysics with SHINE and CEDAR. • Covers magnetospheric physics from bowshock to ionosphere. • Consists of a Chair (term 2 years), a chair-elect who becomes chair, and a Steering Committee who oversees Research Area Coordinators and Focus Groups. • Have abandoned previous Campaign structure in favor of multiple, short-lived focus groups. • Current chair, Mike Liemohn; chair-elect, Dave Sibeck.
Short-Term GEM Plans • 2009 Workshop held in Snowmass, CO, June 21-26 (in parallel with SW12). • Will hold mini-workshops at AGU in December on preceding Sunday. • 2010 Workshop will be held in Snowmass, CO, June 20-25. • 2011 Workshop expected to be joint with CEDAR but not yet settled. Probably will be held in Santa Fe. • Summer workshop is steady at about 200 attendees. • GEM welcomes suggestions for joint studies. Is interested in many of the same physical processes as SHINE.
