Strategic Alliances-Member - Bt cotton commercialization taskforce in Kenya Vision: Bt cotton to be commercialized by 2014 Africenter mission(with KARI&PBS): Sensitizing stakeholders ahead of commercialisation • Extension officers in two cotton growing areas-Rift Valley, Coastal region- DONE • Developing simplified IEC materials • Radio programmes • Development of video on Bt cotton activities
RABESA project under COMESABiosafety regional harmonization efforts • Achieved: 18 member states feedback received • (All countries see need for harmonisation) • Way forward: May 2012: Regional meeting to validate document with recommendations before submission to the ministerial conference for endorsement Africa’s largest trading bloc
Opportunities Presidential assent to the biosafety laws in Ghana • Revised Burkina Faso Biosafety law not scheduled for tabling in Parliament • More farmers eager to adopt biotech crops
