  4. In November 2011, we decided to beginourtrip to historywith a localmuseumcalled TheMainBuilding of National Museum of Szczecin.

TheMainBuildingof National Muzeum, Szczecin • The building was built between 1908 and1913 • The founder and organizer of the facility was Lech Krzekotowski • Itis run by theMinistry of Culture and National Heritage • In thebeginning, the City Museumwas located here. It was officially opened on June 23,1913, andexhibitedarts collections • It is located on the Chrobrego Embankments • Now, itcomprises 5 depatments: marine, numismatics, education, ethnography of Pomerania, outside-europeancultures

Cataloguing techniques • Duringourvisit to themuseum we learnthow to describe an item/antiqueusing a museumcard • According to thecard, we need, for examplethename of theobject, material, measurments, photo, origin, etc. /seeslidbelow/ in order to catalogueeachmuseumitem • Apartfromcards, themuseumuses a computer programme to cataloguehistoricobjects.

Relationship between the museum and local culture life • Contemporary Theatre of Szczecin is located in the same building • There are a lot of organizations working or associated with the museum, e.g. The Academy of Toddlers, Junior Academy, Photographic Workshops, Lectures and talks, Screeningsfilms, Educational programs, Wednesdays with a history of Szczecin
