  2. What is Credit When It’s Due (CWID)? • $500,000 Lumina funded grant aimed at increasing degree completion • Commonly referred to as reverse transfer • credits from university are transferred back to college

  3. Data Mining • The Credit When It's Dueproject is designed to provide MnSCU colleges and universities with pre-analyzed lists of students who appear to be eligible for Associate in Arts degrees. • The candidate pool includes students who earned a minimum of 12 credits at a MnSCU college before transferring to a MnSCU university during fall 2008-2012. • Approximately 11,800 students • An additional candidate pool has been identified of students who transferred to the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and have completed the MnTC. • Approximately 300-400 students?

Varying AA Degree Requirements • Residency Requirements • 20 credits OR • 12 credits plus 8 MnSCU or U of M OR other variation • MnTC residency requirement • MnTC Requirements • number of courses in goal area • sub-parts to goal areas • goal area 2 • Additional Degree Requirements • first year experience • information literacy/information technology • wellness/health/physical education

Audit Review Process • Side by side comparison of: • EMNTC at the university • AA audit at the college • Review for: • satisfactory academic standing • completion of: • residency requirements • MNTC • 60 college-level credits • additional degree requirements • possible substitutions/waivers • encoding inconsistencies

  6. Auditing Results • Each institution receives a pre-analyzed list of students who appear to be eligible for the degree • Lists contain the following information: • Goal areas completed at college • Goal areas completed at university • Goal areas/requirements outstanding • Last term the student was enrolled • Where the student was last enrolled • Where the student has/can meet residency • Substitutions or waivers-if applicable • Concerns related to encoding inconsistencies • Recommendation for degree conferral/MnTC completion

Encoding Inconsistencies • Common reasons for inconsistencies: • outdated TA tables • not rejecting goal areas on equivalent courses • differences in transfer of non-MnSCU courses • not utilizing the EMNTC audit • Noted in the list of eligible students sent to college • Sent to university for review and correction when applicable

Recommendation for Degree Conferral • Lists of students deemed eligible will be sent to institutions to: • verify AA eligibility • consult with students concerning awarding of degree • confer degrees when applicable • Lists of students who have completed the MnTC will be sent to institutions to: • discuss student eligibility and outstanding additional degree requirements • when applicable, passed to university for AA degree conferral • certify completion of MnTC

Data Privacy and Security • Sensitive student information protected under Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). • Moved electronically only through Move It Securely • Stored on secured network drive; not desktop, laptop hard drive or flash drive

AA Degree Eligible Yields… (to date) • Colleges without any additional AA degree requirements • 156 out of 730 prospects or 21% • Colleges with one additional degree requirement • 71 out of 507 prospects or 14% • Colleges with two additional degree requirements • 3 out of 27 prospects or 11% • Colleges with three or more additional degree requirements • 17 out of 406 prospects or 4%

  13. Sustainable Reverse Transfer • Automated tracking and certification of MnTC completion • Recommended encoding practices: • Encoding residency requirements on the degree audit • Encoding a graduation application requirement on the degree audit
