  1. Digestive System • Two types of digestion • Mechanical- your teeth, rip, break and crush food particles • Chemical- saliva contains enzymes that break down food molecules and makes it a slippery mass of food that will slide down easier.

  2. Mouth • the first part of the digestive system, where food enters the body.Chewing and salivary enzymes in the mouth are the beginning of the digestive process (breaking down the food).

  3. Esophagus • the long tube between the mouth and the stomach. • It uses rhythmic muscle movements to force food from the throat into the stomach. • Moves food from mouth to stomach

  4. Stomach • Stores and breaks down food

  5. Small intestine • Where most chemical digestion and absorption takes place. • removes nutrients from food and brings water and electrolytes in the body

  6. Large intestine • Absorbs water and salts from food and excretes solid waste material
