Basic Instrument Training Devices FIRST EXPERIENCE IN BITD QUALIFICATIONS prepared by Capt. Manfred von Allmen, Swiss FOCA
First BITD Qualifications • JSET BITD Qualification Switzerland September 2003: • FOCA and LBA • Manufacturer Elite Simulation Solutions • Based on Beech Baron BE58, ME Piston • JSET BITD Qualification France October 2003: • DGAC and FOCA • Manufacturer Alsim • Based on Tobago TB22, SE Piston
Topics of this new Device • Similar to FNPT I, but • lower technical Requirements(spring loaded Flight Controls) • simplified Qualification Procedure • Higher Fidelity than old Devices under GF Rights • Less Credit according JAR-FCL compared with old Devices under GF Rights HIGHER TRAINING QUALITY!
Differences to FNPT Qualifications • Technical Qualification of a new Model at the Manufacturer’s Site • User Approval only for all Serial Numbers of the same Model (without further technical Evaluation) • Always JSET Qualification with at least 2 NAs
Experience in Qualification (1) • Preparation • Organisation of the JSET Team 1 Day (for the leading Authority) • Schedule Discussion with Manufacturer and Preparation 1 Day (for all JSET Members) • QTG Preview 1 Day (for all JSET Members) • Qualification • Briefing • Objective Evaluation ½ Day (for all JSET Members) • Subjective Evaluation ½ Day (for all JSET Members) • Debriefing and Reporting
Experience in Qualification (2) • Post Qualification Work • Qualification Certificate • Tracking of open Items • General Impression • Focal Point is the subjective Evaluation • Simple objective Testing • Suitable Training Device for Basic Instrument Training • Importance of the User Approval becomes obvious
Overview proposed Manoeuvre List • PPL, AMC FCL 1.125 • Basic Instrument and Attitude Flight • Basic Manoeuvres • CPL(A), AMC FCL 1.160 & 1.165 • Basic Instrument Flight and Patterns • Radio Navigation • ATP(A) and IR, Appendix 1 to JAR-FCL 1.205 • Instrument Departures and Arrivals, Enroute • Instrument Approaches and Go-Arounds
